Upper Arlington Crew Financial Assistance Information

Thank you for your interest in Rowing on the Upper Arlington High School Crew Team. The coaches and Board of UA Crew Inc. would like every student athlete interested in being a rower to have the opportunity to compete as part of our nationally recognized team. UA Crew Inc. has established a financial assistance program to help those families that might not be able to otherwise afford to join the team and row.

Running a scholastic rowing team is an expensive venture. UA Crew Inc. owns and maintains all of the equipment and the boathouse/dock facilities used by the team. The high school pays for the spring head coaches' salaries only and a small grant that amounts to less than 4% of the annual operating/equipment budget. UA Crew Inc currently owns over $350,000 of equipment and facilities. The racing shells that we use are expensive to purchase and maintain, with a new 4 person shell costing $24,000 and a new 8 person shell $40,000. UA Crew has an impressive 24 shell fleet allowing us to accommodate more than 100 rowers each season.
 
The financial assistance program can be applied for in both the spring and fall seasons and is available throughout a rower’s high school career. It is used to reduce the registration/equipment fees paid by each rower at the start each season (see UA Crew Fees below). Families interested in requesting financial assistance need to fill out an application at the time of registration. The application and further information is available by requesting a UA Crew account on our website.  Check the menu for links to instructions and the signup system.  This will enable you to get registration information as well as more information about UA Crew. All financial assistance applications are reviewed by a committee consisting primarily of the Treasurer and  President of UA Crew Inc and are kept confidential. It is our sincere hope that cost does not deter any athlete from participating on the UA Crew Rowing Team.

UA Crew Fees

The fees for UA Crew are broken into 2 categories for the fall and spring competitive seasons. There are registration/equipment fees and regatta fees. Registration/equipment fees cover the operating costs for UA Crew including the cost of equipment/facilities maintenance & repair, equipment replacement, rental/boatyard space, coaches’ salaries, utilities, insurance etc. These fees are determined by the total cost of all expenses and divided evenly among the rowers.

The regatta fees, which are not eligible for financial assistance, strictly covers the cost for the individual rower to participate in any given regatta.  In other words you pay only for the regattas that the rower will be attending.  The regatta fees cover expenses such as transportation, hotel, food and regatta registration costs etc.
 
*Please note that the high school charges an athletic participation fee in the spring for all rowers. UA Crew is unable to assist with this fee, however if you have questions or concerns regarding this fee please contact the high school athletic department.
